Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Spit it Out!
Spit it Out!

Cardiff, Slade and Fenty

By: Gav West
Date: 15/06/2006

THE Fishy gives its subscribers the chance to have their say on Grimsby Town, football in general, articles or their own story as supporters. Today Gav West responds to the statement by John Fenty.

Having just read Dave Boylen's article about the lack of commitment of both manager and certain players who knew that their futures lie elsewhere at the end of the season, I am sure there is more to come out about this but guess we will never really get to know the truth.

I was at Cardiff and watched the team coach arrive at the stadium. There was no excitement or smiles on the players faces, no acknowledgement of the fans (except for Woodhouse who knew he was going anyway) and it looked to me that they had just been given bad news. If this news was that Slade was on his way, then was there any wonder that they performed like they did on the day ?

I have also heard a rumour that alleged Fenty had a bit of a bust up with Slade after the league drubbing at Lincoln when Slade kept the players on the pitch at half time. Apparently, some of the players complained to Fenty that they had felt humiliated (not as humiliated as I did having to watch it !) who in turn had it out with Slade.

Mr Fenty has put his money where his mouth is, has a right to say how the club is run but unfortunately it seems that the players agents and it appears managers agents too have all the power.

If players don't want to play for Town, get rid of them and bring in someone who does. Rob Jones is a case in point. He was atrocious in his first season, attributes his success last season to Grezza, gets voted player of the season and yet still moves on.

Pleased to see that Whitts has just signed up again. Jones only looked good when he played alongside Whitts. Lets see if he can do the same this season for Futch (we can live in hope !!!).
