I hope that you share my enthusiasm for the new stadium project and what it can do for the local economy and community. If so, I would ask you to spare a few minutes of your time to register that support with the Council.

You can do that by writing to Andrew Edwards, Deputy Director of Planning and Transportation at the Council at:

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ADDRESS YOUR LETTER TO THE COUNCIL BUT SEND IT TO THE CHAIRMAN AT BLUNDELL PARK.

The following letter has been sent to the Council by the club

Grimsby Town Football Club has submitted a planning application for a new stadium to replace the club's existing out of date ground at Blundell Park.

The application is for a new 20,100 capacity football stadium with integral hotel, 1,300 space car and coach park and a 700 space Park and Ride facility, all subsidised by an enabling retail development. The scheme will be developed on land to the south east of the Great Coates Interchange between the A180 and A1136 on the western side of town. Details can be accessed by internet on www.gtfcnewstadium.co.uk

Objections to the proposal have been raised by some of the residents of Great Coates. The club is committed to addressing these objections, by putting in place a series of measures to deal with any potential match day impacts associated with the new stadium, and is confident that the amenity of residents can be protected.

The Council registered the Football Club's planning application on 17 February and is now consulting the Grimsby/ Cleethorpes community for its views. As chairman of the Football Club, I firmly believe that this project will bring significant benefits to the area. In particular, it would:

  • create an iconic building as a gateway to Grimsby, with the potential to enhance the image of the town in terms of sport and investor confidence
  • guarantee the long-term viability of the Football Club to the benefit of its employees and the town's image
  • create an estimated 350 full time and 250 part time jobs
  • have a synergy with Europarc by providing complementary uses such as hotel, restaurants and conference facilities
  • deliver a Park & Ride facility to enhance the vitality of the town centre by reducing congestion
  • provide a modern Learning Centre
  • have the potential to accommodate other community facilities, in particular for education and health use.
