Beat the Bookies: Week 35

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/03/2007

ROCHDALE'S remarkable 7-2 win at Stockport last weekend was a tremendous results not only the Dale, but also for Beat the Bookies who had picked Rochdale to win at 15/4.

This weekend Grimsby travel to Notts County after the anti-climax of last week when their late push for a play-off place effectively came to an end. I would expect Town's form to dip now with nothing to play for for the rest of the season, although County likewise are stuck in a mid-table malaise and themselves are just treading water until August. Nonetheless a County win looks the best bet of the three possible outcomes and can be backed at 6/5.

Elsewhere in League Two Boston have hit a rich vein of form when their season looked doomed a month ago. But those facing oblivion at this stage of the season are often the strongest, and the Pilgrims should overcome Bury at York Street, who have been going through a miserable time since the turn of the year. Boston can be backed at Evens. If Bury don't improve they could well join Torquay in the Conference next season, despite being comfortably in the top half at Christmas - a salutary tale.

Another team in tremendous form at the moment are Shrewsbury, who travel to Swindon with both teams currently in a play-off place. The Shrews' biggest problem is fixture congestion but they seem to be taking it in their stride and are finding their form at the right time of the season. They're worth a punt at 10/3 (with Corals) to topple County on their own patch.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Boston to beat Bury (Evens).
  • 2. Shrewsbury to beat Swindon (10/3).
