GARY Harkins has been allowed to stay in his native Scotland and he is currently training with Scottish Division One side Partick Thistle.

Harkins, who struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Town first team last season, will spend at least two weeks with the Jags.

Speaking of the move, Town boss Alan Buckley said: "He still has a year left on his contract here but didn't play as much as he would have liked last season. "Two or three clubs made enquiries over the summer and with us having strength in midfield with James Hunt's arrival, we decided to let Gary go and train up in Scotland. "He may get something offered but if not, he will back with us on July 23."

Meanwhile, former Torquay defender Stevland Angus is training with the Mariners. The Town boss is an admirer of the player who will be hoping to earn himself a contract at Blundell Park.

Stev is training with us but it's no more than that at the minute, "Buckley said.

"I am pleased to have the chance to have a look at him."I remember when we played at Torquay last season that he impressed at the back - he did well against us that night."

"After that, I kept tabs on him and we enquired a couple of times during the season to see what his situation was."

"He is looking to see what is on offer this summer and we thought we could have a look but that's it so far."

Angus was born in Essex and began his career as a trainee with West Ham United, featuring in their 1999 FA Youth Cup win, and turning professional in August 1999. In need of first team experience, Angus joined Bournemouth on loan in August 2000, making his league debut on August 12, 2000 in a 1-1 draw away to Bristol Rovers. He returned to West Ham after two months, but failed to break into the first team and was released at the end of the 2000-01 season.

In July 2001, Angus joined Cambridge United on a free transfer. He spent four years with Cambridge, playing 135 league games, scoring once, but towards the end of his time there fell out of favour with then manager Herve Renard. In December 2004 he joined Hull City on loan and the following month joined Scunthorpe United on loan.

At the end of the 2004-05 season, Cambridge were relegated to the Conference and Angus left to join ambitious Conference side Grays Athletic. He joined Barnet on loan in January 2006, remaining at Underhill until the end of the season.

In July 2006 signed a contract with Ian Atkins' Torquay United for the 2006-7 season, remaining a regular under subsequent managers Lubos Kubik and Colin Lee and Keith Curle. He was a regular in the Torquay side relegated to the Conference National, but was released at the end of the 2006-07 season.
