Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Beat the Bookies: Week 10

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/10/2007

BEAT the Bookies had another winner last week when Bury steamrollered Notts County at Meadow Lane. Can we make it three winning weeks on the spin after our poor start to the season?

Grimsby head to Wycombe this week, where they have a terrible record. However they are boosted by two new loan signings, good players in exactly the positions we needed them. However if it wasn't Wycombe I'd be tempted to back Town to win at 4/1 with BetDirect. Grimsby have lost their last two league games but have been unlucky in both (Peterborough and Rochdale) to come away with nothing. Town's form, especially with two quality new signings is not as bad as their league position suggests at the moment. For the brave 4/1 may well represent excellent value.

This week England have two massive games at football and rugby. Frankly the betting public have got carried away with our own recent successes and the odds on the opposition winning are too good to turn down. England beat Russia comfortably at Wembley but it wasn't as easy as the 3-0 scoreline suggests (trust me, I was there) and Russia had a lot of players out that night. Plus they are playing on a plastic pitch and will have 70,000+ fanatical Russians cheering them on. Only a fool would bet on England to win at 13/10. Russia, however, are available at the extraordinary price of 11/5. This is simply too good a price to turn down. Remember how poor Steve McClaren's team have been on their travels and make a visit to Mr Coral and invest your money wisely. You will kick yourself if you don't.

Then there is the Rugby. Yes, England have done well, but they have been extraordinarily lucky to reach the final. Your could replay all the games in the tournament maybe 100 times and England would only get to the final one or two times at best. I nearly choked on my coffee when I saw South Africa are as good a price as 2/5 to beat England. They won 36-0 a few weeks ago and are a vastly superior team. South Africa have won handsomely in every game and must be delighted to have avoided all the best teams throughout the tournament. England have got no chance, and this is a virtually risk free bet. Do not miss out.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Russia to beat England (11/5, Corals).
  • 2. South Africa to beat England (2/5, bet365).
