Town Target Four or Five

GRIMSBY Town are looking to get at least four or five new players in this summer according to Town Chairman John Fenty. "There are four or five key positions we need to strengthen in order to give us a good blend of youth and experience," Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph,

"We had a meeting with Alan [Buckley] on Tuesday and discussed a long list of players who are potential targets and would make us stronger."

The Town Chairman would not reveal how much money would be made available, and whether the playing budget would be more or less than last season, however, stressing that the Mariners would operate to a tight budget. Though With several players having left or about to leave Blundell Park, the available kitty will naturally be boosted.

"The manager has what we feel is a very reasonable budget for this division and we will be backing him as he looks to build on what we have already.

"There's no way I would discuss figures and we pride ourselves on our prudence when other clubs often gamble with consequences.

"But if there needs to be a small fee involved for a signing then we will endeavour to do our best to make it happen.

"Everyone here has great confidence that Alan will bring in the players he feels we need this summer.

"We had a good middle part of last season and now we need that to be the case more consistently next season."

Grimsby manager has the defence at the top of his wishlist after losing two central defenders as well as addressing the problems caused by the failure to secure a right back throughout the whole of last season.

Buckley said: "I've spent countless hours on the phone to agents about various players and we are looking to strengthen several areas.

"But defensively we need numbers most and that is priority after the way we've leaked goals in the last two seasons."

One time defensive target Sam Hird will definitely not be coming to Blundell Park after committing himself to Doncaster earlier this week. Likewise Buckley has ruled out a move for Walsall pair Darren Wrack and Ian Roper.
