Buckley Plays the Waiting Game

By: Matty Newton
Date: 10/06/2008

MANAGER Alan Buckley has contacted his transfer targets and will await replies before looking at other players.

Buckley speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph said: "I have spoken to a couple of defenders and it's now a case of waiting for them to come back to us. It's the same thing at this time every year as players look around. Hopefully, we'll hear either way soon and we can go from there.

Buckley urged patience from the fans some of whom are becoming frustrated at the failure to land any new signings.

"Like I've said before, there is work going on behind the scenes but it doesn't happen quickly. We've got to try and get the players we think are right for the club and not just bring people in on a whim."

Whether or not just two defenders will be enough to re-build the back line is yet to be seen, with most fans feeling that a couple of centre halfs, a right back and a back up to Newey are needed.

  • In other news the Mariners new kits went on sale on Sunday with over 400 shirts being sold as fans queued for up to an hour to get their hands on the new designed merchandise.

  • The club shop will be open again from Thursday 12th with fans avaiable to purchase a wide range of Mariners' clothing, now made of course by the Italian sports company Errea. Lettering and numbering will also be available from this date.
