Town Sign Loan Pair

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/09/2008

THE Mariners have made two more loan signings in time for Saturday's crunch clash with Barnet at Blundell Park. Huddersfield Town's Malvin Kamara and Doncaster Rovers' Tomi Ameobi have both signed one month loan deals to boost caretaker Stuart Watkiss's squad.

Stuart Watkiss was excited at the prospect of getting Sierra Leone international winger Malvin Kamara to the club. "In Malvin we have got someone who is quick, strong and likes to take full-backs on. He is a handful for defences. Those Town fans who went to Huddersfield last year in the cup may remember him," Watkiss told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"We saw his ability first hand there and he gave Tom Newey one of his most difficult afternoons ever."

Striker Tomi Ameobi, brother of Newcastle United's Shola, is also a player Watkiss was keen to get.

He said: "Tomi is different to what we have already got. He is more than six foot tall and, along with Malvin, should help us to be more potent. You can't get away from the fact that we don't score enough goals. We are very aware of that.

"Tomi comes to us with less experience, but he will have something to prove."

Kamara has more first team experience than Ameobi, but has the added bonus of being eligible for the Johnstone Paint Trophy,

Grimsby now have five loan players on their books.
