Jarman: Broken Toe
Jarman: Broken Toe

Jarmo out for Six Weeks

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/08/2009 (Last updated: 04/08/2009)

NATHAN Jarman will be out for six weeks after breaking an infamous metatarsal bone in his foot against Winterton. The right-sided midfielder will consequently miss the busy first few games on the season, the first big test for Mike Newell's new look squad before a ball is even kicked in anger.

Jarman went down unchallenged and off the ball just before half time and subsequent X-rays have confirmed that the Scunthorpe-born midfielder had broken his toe.

The 22-year-old told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I don't know what happened but I just went down without being challenged and I think I had put all of my weight on my foot, which was planted in the ground.

"It is really painful to walk on and I can't really move it. It's a blow (if I miss the start of the season) but we will just have to see what happens and just work hard to get through it."

Newell has a number of forward players he could call on to play in the right midfield position including Clarke, Bore, Proudlock and Forbes.

  • The Mariners have been given a bye in the first round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy and will go straight into the second round draw.
