"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

monday 22nd september

Harry Redknapp

From BBC Radio Five Live

"'People should remember this club's come a long way in a short space of time. They now expect us to turn over the likes of Man City. Not long ago this club couldn't beat Grimsby!'"

Spotted by hampshiremariner.

Estonia

From Ashley Cole's book My Defence

He says his mum came to watch him for Crystal Palace, "at Grimsby of all places".

Jeff Winter

From VitalHartlepool.co.uk

Former referee Jeff Winter speaking of goal line technology.

"That is one of the main problems. I think everyone would agree that goal line technology would benefit the game. Firstly we have to have an instant decision making process that works. To date that has not been invented. Secondly what would it cost, Premiership clubs may well be able to afford it, but the likes of Grimsby who are struggling to keep afloat certainly could not.

"So do we have it for only the elite level that would be contrary to the laws of the game? What would happen if Chelsea were drawn away to Grimsby in the Cup?"

Spotted by Grim Rob.

Yorkshire!

From Top Gear

"Because of this car, I wouldn't be surprised if Grimsby won the FA Cup" - Jeremy Clarkson

Spotted by Jonathan Parkes, who explains: "basically, he was saying that the latest car the Premiership football players are likely to buy, the Caparo T1, was so dangerous that the top teams will have no players left because they'll all be dead in ditches".

To be a Grimbarian

From The Guardian

To live in Grimsby is to be a Grimbarian. Sam Gardiner might have been born in Portadown, but he is an adoptive Grimbarian who knows a thing or two about the tendency of the grin in "grin and bear it" to shade into grim, or even grimace.
