Town Beat City in Thriller

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/08/2011

TWO late Grimsby goals brought the Lincolnshire Senior Cup home for a record 38th time last night as the Mariners won the tournament for the first time in over a decade thanks to two late strikes by Coulson and Hearn to climax a seven goal thriller.

Makofo has given the Mariners the lead on 23 minutes with a headed goal, before the Imps equalised through.Russell on 28.

Lincoln then scored two goals just before half time, the first through Barraclough, and the second a controversial penalty which Perry converted.

Town gave themselves hope straight after the break when Disley lobbed the 'keeper to make it 3-2 to City.

Town piled forward looking to get back into the game, and it looked like they might be thwarted until the late strike turned the match completely around. On 85 minutes Scott Garner back-heeled the ball in the box to Coulson who scored from close range.

But it was to get better for Town in the 90th minutes when Hearn latched on to a Coulson pass and blasted the ball past the ;keeper into the far corner.
