Salisbury Awaits

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/11/2011

GRIMSBY now know their route to the possible riches of Round 3 in the FA Cup. The Mariners have to beat League Two side Port Vale in the Round 1 replay at Blundell Park next week. If they manage that they will face BSS outfit Salisbury in Wiltshire in the second round.

Town more than matched Port Vale for the first 45 minutes on Saturday, and will be hoping that home advantage will carry them over the line on Tuesday week.

On paper Salisbury is a winnable game, but Town have been beaten many time recently by lower league opposition. The Mariners have not been in Round 3 of the FA Cup since they were last in the Championship in 2004, when they entered the competition at that stage.

In other highlights of the draw another BSS side Sutton United will host League One side Notts County at home, and AFC Totton, who beat Bradford Park Avenue 8-1 on Saturday, will entertain Bristol Rovers. If Scunthorpe beat AFC Wimbledon in the replay at Glanford Park they will have to travel to Bradford.

Sheffield United v Torquay United
Colchester United v Swindon Town
Chelmsford City v Macclesfield Town

Sheffield Wednesday v Maidenhead United or Aldershot Town
Sutton United v Notts County
Preston North End or Southend United v Oldham Athletic
AFC Totton v Bristol Rovers
Charlton Athletic v Carlisle United

Ties will be played on the weekend of 3 and 4 December.
