Biggest Win Since 1957

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/11/2011

TOWN'S seven goal haul against Stockport was their best victory since 1957 when they won by the same scoreline at Bristol Rovers. The Mariners managed seven once last season against Mansfield, but they conceded two that day.

Town's best ever league win was 8-0 against Tranmere in 1925, and their greatest ever victory 9-0 in an FA Cup match with Newark in 1888.

Last night's victory falls joint 10th in the all time table, but of the 9 above it 6 fell in the 19th century before modern rules were introduced. For anyone under 54 it was the biggest win in their lifetime in a competive game.
