Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Town Do Enough

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 10/02/2013

GRIMSBY ground out a 1-0 win against Telford at Blundell Park to maintain their three point league at the top of the division. The only goal of the game was scored by Richard Brodie just after half time. The Mariners were not at their best in a fairly mediocre game, but three points are welcome however they are achieved,

Scott and Hurst shuffled their pack once again for the visit of Telford. Derek Niven came back in midfield for Andi Thanoj, and the sick Jamie Devitt was replaced by Joe Colbeck on the wing.

Town dominated the game before the break but without creating any clear cut openings. Cook and Hatton came closest when they forced saves from the Telford 'keeper'

Andy Cook forced a good save right at the start of the second half with a bullet header from a terrific cross by Marshall. Within minutes though Town were ahead. Telford gave the ball away and Colbeck picked out Brodie's run perfectly. The Town striker was through clean on goal and slotted it nonchalantly past the 'keeper to give the Mariners the lead.

Town looked to put the game beyond doubt but were unable to add the crucial second goal that their overall play deserved, although Cook had an effort disallowed for offside. Telford had their moments but didn't really have the quality to trouble Town where it mattered and the Mariners ground out another win.

It's two games a week from now on starting on Tuesday when Town head to Nuneaton for the re-arranged game in the West Midlands. Town drew 0-0 with Nuneaton in the third game of the season, a result which left Grimsby with 2 points and a section of fans who decided the season was already over calling for the managers' heads. How times have changed.
