Scott Free

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/09/2013 (Last updated: 10/09/2013)

ROB Scott been suspended by Grimsby Town, leaving his erstwhile partner Paul Hurst in sole charge of the Mariners. The two have been at Blundell Park for two years and last season took Town to the play-offs and the FA Trophy final at Wembley.

An earlier report on the Fishy that Rob Scott had left the club was incorrect. Like many news organisations the Fishy assumed that Scott had either been sacked or had resigned leaving Hurst in charge, but the statement from GTFC only said Hurst was now in charge. All we really know is that Paul Hurst is sole manager for the moment. We apologise for any confusion caused.

Hurst's first game in charge will be at Luton in the televised game on Saturday. His first decision will be whether to keep the same 4-3-3 formation or revert to the 4-4-2 that came close to succeeding last season.

No details have been revealed why Scott has been relieved of his role, although he generally played the "bad cop" role of the pair. The fact that Hurst has been retained suggests it was more a personal thing with Scott than the team's indifferent start, and the club have confirmed that Scott being relieved of his role is for non-performance reasons.
