Town Draw Blank

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/02/2014

TOWN drew a blank in a low-key goalless draw with Southport at Blundell Park. After a first half with few chances to either side, things improved a little after the break, particularly following the substitutions.

Hannah had been preferred to Tounkara to start the game as Paul Hurst tried to keep his players fresh, but the on-loan Frenchmen looked more likely to find a breakthrough when he come on with 20 minutes to go. The Southport 'keeper had to make two good saves to deny Tounkara shortly after his introduction. Then Disley headed a good far post chance into the side netting.

It was only the second time this season Grimsby had failed to score in a league game (the other being when Cambridge won 1-0 in October).

Grimsby get another chance to gain ground on the teams above them when they head to Dartford on Tuesday night, although the weather forecast suggests it could be touch and go whether that match will go ahead.
