Grimsby v Macclesfield Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/12/2014

GRIMSBY have several players carrying knocks from the busy Christmas period which culminated in a bruising game with Lincoln at Blundell Park. Carl Magnay (foot), Craig Clay and Scott Neilson (both knocks) all face late fitness tests to see if they are fit to face Macclesfield.

Paul Bignot is the most likely to replace Magnay at full back should he not make it, and Scott Brown would fill in midfield for Clay. Scott Neilson replaced Jack Mackreth for the Lincoln defeat, so Mackreth would doubtless reclaim his starting place should Neilson not make it.

Full back Toto Nsiala is still suspended after his tenth yellow card at Macclesfield resulted in a two-game ban. Another player who definitely won't be making the first team is midfielder Nicky Walker who has joined Boston in a permanent deal. The winger had been on loan from Rotherham but failed to make a competitive appearance for Town and was an inexplicable signing by Paul Hurst during a period when Grimsby had very few games on due to cup postponements.

Second placed Macclesfield will be out for revenge after Grimsby became the first side to win at Moss Rose on Boxing Day. However Macclesfield won at Blundell Park last year and the season before, so they'll be confident they can make it three away wins in succession. The Silkmen have signed attacking midfielder Danny Rowe from Conference North side AFC Fylde since that game took place so he'll give them another option.
