Pools Defeated at Least!

GRIMSBY recorded their first league win over Hartlepool since the 1980s to break the sequence of mainly heavy defeats to the North East club. A first half goal from striker Adi Yussuf was enough to seal the points from the game and make it two away wins on the trot for Marcus Bignot.

The three points lifts Grimsby to within a few points of the play-offs and with 36 points on the board Town are now a long way away from the bottom two and look set up for a top half finish at their first season back at this level.

Adi Yussuf started up front for Town as Marcus Bignot continued with his back three.

Defences dominated in the early part of the game but Henderson has to make a flying save to deny ex-Town striker Padraig Amond. Town took the lead just before the break when a long ball from midfield was flicked by Bogle to Yussuf, but made no mistake from close range.

After the break Craig Disley had a header cleared off the line, and at the other end Hartlepool also had a Paynter shot cleared off the line by Davies, but in general chances were limited.
