Town Run Out of Ideas

GRIMSBY'S unbeaten run (albeit one comprising mainly of 0-0 draws) came to an end when they were well beaten by Exeter at St James Park. The Mariners once again struggled to create chances and failed to score for the fourth consecutive competitive game.

Russell Slade stuck with the same starting XI that had played in the last few games. However it was no surprise a goal from a cross by Jayden Stockley put Town a goal down in the first half.

Town failed to muster a chance of note and Exeter effectively won the game with their second after the break when Liam McAlinden was played through and shot past McKeown.

Grimsby need to go back to the drawing board with their approach to matches. Picking off a point against lower teams and losing to the higher teams is not a recipe for even hanging onto their mid-table slot.

The Mariners next have a chance to put on a performance to make the fans proud again when Carlisle visit Blundell Park at the weekend.
