Daggers In Cup

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/10/2020

GRIMSBY have been drawn away at National League side Dagenham in Round 1 of the FA Cup. Town have never beaten the Daggers who they played six times in League Two between 2008 and 2010 when the Mariners were generally in the lower reaches of League Two.

This year there are no replays in the cup so the result will be decided on the day regardless of the score at 90 minutes.

Grimsby switched places with Dagenham when they got promoted from the National League in 2016 and the East London club got relegated.

With Dagenham having only won one game this season so far it's a winnable tie, although Town won't be cheered on by their sizeable London contingent boosting the travelling army from NE Lincs, as would normally have been the case. Although there is no gate money to share, the winner will receive over £22K in prize money and of course the possibility of more income in future rounds.

Last season Grimsby beat Doncaster and Macclesfield at Blundell Park before succumbing to Chelsea in London at Stamford Bridge in Round 3.
