Brighton Sells Out

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/03/2023

GRIMSBY'S allocation of 4,621 tickets for the FA Cup Quarter Final at Brighton was snapped up in a few hours, despite sales being limited to season ticket holders and the match televised on BBC1.

Most of the tickets were sold in the evening and early hours of the morning.

With an 84-year wait since the Mariners were last in the Quarters, supporters appear to have literally looked on this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and queued through the night to get tickets. Online sales started at midnight, and fans were reporting virtual queues of up to an hour as they burned the midnight oil.

The Sussex club are close to selling their home tickets, so the match will be all ticket, and the ground could probably have been sold twice over. Should the Mariners progress the semi will be at Wembley and tickets will be much more plentiful.

The club in a statement apologised to regular supporters who has missed out: "We would like to apologise to any supporter who has not been able to get a ticket for the game – we have been completely overwhelmed."

The Mariners have already made history beating five clubs in higher divisions to reach the last eight. In 1939, just before the war, they beat Chelsea away at this stage to book their passage to the FA Cup semi-final.

The match takes place on Sunday March 19 at 14:15.
