"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

tuesday 19th december

Paul Gambachini

From terrestrial TV

In one of those surreal moments flicking between channels on terrestrial TV, caught Paul Gambachini talking about the influence of American songwriters in the late '60's and citing the use of place names such as Tulsa (as in 24 hours from) and Oklahoma and Albama, and then he said....

"Grimsby just didn't work as well...."

or words to that effect.

Spotted by James Milne who adds

"Just another example of someone who has never lived or even visited the great town of complete ignorance. He probably thinks the whole town smells of fish."

Stadium Victory

From the Norwegian Press

After 101 years at Blundell Park will the 1st division team move to another ground? The club last night got a licence to build, but still plans have to be sorted out and still no start of building is known.

The building plans has, almost of course, met resistance from the new neighbours in Great Coates. Earlier this year it was them who won when politicians that said no to the new stadium, this time they wasn't heard. The meeting took four hours and it became quite intense when about 200 Grimsby-supportere met up to discuss the plans with the representatives of their future neighbours.

The Mariners don't get the ball go their way nowadays, as they lay in 21. place in the first division, one place over relegation. Whether the politicians willingness will follow the results time will show.

Chinese success

From the back pages of Norway's top paper

China's national captain Zhang Enhua played from the start for Grimsby on Saturday, and helped the club to it's first victory in eight matches. Afterwards the 27 year old player got a boost from the manager LL. "He was very good. He is a skillful defender", said Lawrence
