Grimsby to Help Hull

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/02/2001

Grimsby Town FC have agreed to help Hull City with their current problems said Vice Chairman Bryan Huxford today. The gates at Hull's Boothferry Park ground are still locked as the stricken club's future hangs in the balance and owner David Lloyd refusing to let them back in.

In a statement today, Bryan Huxford said with the Mariners playing away at Gillingham, Blundell Park would be available to them.

"Someone who is a leading light in Hull and who has an association with Hull City phoned me yesterday asking about the possibility of playing at Blundell Park on Saturday,"

"I have no problem with them playing at our ground and I would be happy to help them out as I would hope that if anything like this happened to us they would do the same."

"I said both clubs would have to come to some arrangements before the game went ahead but, so far, I have not heard anything back."

David Lloyd said that he was disappointed that the council had not moved in to buy Boothferry Park from him and questioned their commitment to sport in the city.

This is an excellent offer from Grimsby Town to a fellow football club and sets an example to the football world of how clubs should be helping each other. The Hull City fans will be pleased to hear that help in this particular issue is at hand.
