Blundell Park to Host England International

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/09/2001

BLUNDELL PARK has been selected as the venue for England women's team to play Holland in a qualifying match for the 2003 World Cup in China. The game, which will be shown live on Sky TV, takes place on Sunday 4th November at 4pm.

Grimsby Town Chief Executive Ian Fleming was thrilled to get England at Blundell Park, in what will be the first full international ever to take place at Grimsby's ground. "It is a privilege for the club to be chosen as the venue for a full international match and we are all looking forward to hosting the Women's World Cup qualifier between England and Holland. I am sure it will be a wonderful occasion and of course we wish England all the best!" said Fleming.

Hope Powell, England Women’s Coach, speaking about the fixture said: "There is a lot at stake in this match, which will provide a great atmosphere for the crowd on the day and we hope to get off to a winning start. We are hoping England fans will turn out in force to give the team as much support as possible in their efforts to qualify for the 2003 World Cup in China."

The match will be free for children when accompanied by an adult, with adults and unaccompanied children having to pay just £3 to see the international fixture. For ticket sales call Grimsby Town's ticket hotline on 01472 605050.

GRIMSBY TOWN are set to offer a one-year contract to 18-year-old Ossett Town winger Stephen Downs after the youngster impressed Lennie Lawrence during a one week trial in which he played for Town's reserves in their cup defeat by Lincoln City.

Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence said: "We'll sort something out for the lad. I'm not too sure what exactly but we will do something for him."
