Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Do your best but no humiliation says LL

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 09/10/2001

"I JUST hope that we put on a good show. How many times are they going to play at Anfield?, They have got to make sure when they come off they can say they've done themselves, the team, the fans and the club justice."

"If we play at Liverpool 10 times we're going to lose eight, draw one and we might win the other one. We have to try and make sure this is the one. If we stick to the game-plan and if it's level or tight after 60 minutes, it might get interesting. What we don't want is a humiliation. We just want a good show and anything else is a bonus."

Wayne Burnett, Menno Willems, John McDermott, Michael Jeffrey, David Smith, Steve Livingstone and Paul Raven are all out injured but Danny Coyne returns in goal after international duty. Lawrence will also give Stacy Coldicott his first start of the season despite the midfielder only having played 45 minutes of Reserve team football in the last five months.

"Stacy needs another week and could do with another Reserve game. I'm going to have put one or two square pegs in round holes for a 4-4-2." Said Lawrence in his interview with the Grimsby Telegraph.

"There will be two or three youngsters on the bench but I wouldn't want a totally inexperienced youngster to go in and struggle. We're young enough. I'm going to play 4-4-2 with midfield players in midfield. Two forwards will play and two will be on the bench."

Town: Coyne, Butterfield, Groves, Broomes, Gallimore, Pouton, Coldicott, Boulding, Campbell, Jevons, Rowan, Ermes, Allen, Ford, Bolder, Chapman, Ward, C Thompson.
