Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Sharpe Must Come To BP!

By: Ray Lucas
Date: 11/05/2002

THERE is a lot of media speculation at the moment that says that one-time Manchester United and England player Lee Sharpe, is about to end his Bradford nightmare and join the Mariners revolution.

Although perhaps not as quick as he once was, Lee possesses plenty of skill, something which is in short supply in the middle of the park. Lee has the potential to turn a match, and would surely add another few thousand on the gate. Lee is at the age when he needs first team football, which is what he would get at Blundell Park. His arrival would get the best out of Wayne Burnett, who does not play as well as he could in most of his games.

Although the ITV digital crisis has cast a shadow over football's future, Sharpe's arrival may have the same effect on us that Robert Prosinecki did at Portsmouth. Plus it would help to raise the club's profile significantly. He brings experience and class to the side he plays in, and has represented England on several occasions. If Sharpey comes, we just might surprise a few people next season.

I sincerely hope Grovesie can pull off the impossible dream. Looks like the summer could be full of surprises!
