We regularly need new Cod Heads, so would appreciate contributions from lifelong supporters of the Mariners. This week's Cod Head is Matty Kurzon.

Fishy:
Tell us a bit about yourself.

Matty:
I was born in Grimsby in 1976 and lived there until 1986 when we moved to Sheffield(SPIT)for two years we then moved back to the homeland and I have been here ever since. I am a regular to BP and have supported them all my life and will do till the day I die.

Fishy:
When did you first start supporting the Mariners, and what was your first game?

Matty:
I have supported Town since around the age of 4. I am not sure but I reckon my first Town game was against Barnsley in the late seventies or early eighties.

Fishy:
Who is the best player you ever saw wearing a Grimsby Town shirt?

Matty:
That is really hard, there have been many greats but I would have to say George Santos. He only played a handful of games but he was outstanding - he could control defence and midfield, he was fantastic. I only wish he had been more willing to stay and maybe we would have stayed in Division 2.

Fishy:
If there is one game you were allowed to go back in time and watch what would it be and why?

Matty:
Without doubt Liverpool 1-2 Town, what a piece of history. I still watch the tape over and over again even more so now we got relegated. If there was one day I was really proud and standing tall in my Town shirt it was that day. Chanting "WHO ARE YA" at Liverpool of all people ran a tingly sensation down my spine.

Fishy:
What are your favourite and least favourite away grounds?

Matty:
My favourite has to be Peterborough, it had a great atmosphere and the travelling Mariners fans added to it a great deal. The worst is a three way tie between Glanford Park,Belle Vue or Saltergate.

Fishy:
What, in your opinion, are GTFC's best and worst seasons since you have been supporting them?

Matty:
Best was most definitely 1997/1998 what a season that was. Don't get me started, I could talk all day about that.

Fishy:
What is the most eventful day you have ever had in the course of following the Mariners?

Matty:
It was the Bournemouth Wembley final; we nearly failed to make it - Ford cars are rubbish these days.

Fishy:
What is the strangest thing you have ever done at a game?

Matty:
There's too many I don't want to embarrass myself, but my mate Mike Gray, well he did fall over on Fulham terraces and rolled down 5 steps. Then there was the time he was so pleased when Mansaram scored against Wednesday last season he tried to jump on the pitch. It is true Town fans are passionate!!!

Fishy:
Who is the greatest ever GTFC manager?

Matty:
I hate to say this but Alan Buckley. I despise the man and at the end of the day he was awful towards the end. He did get us to Wembley and that was a great achievement but I can only say Buckley because there is no other choice. P.S. Apologies Kenny Swain :)

Fishy:
How many games a season do you get to now, and what do you do while Town are playing games that you can't get to?

Matty:
All home games and most away games.

Fishy:
Name your all-time starting eleven since you have been watching Town?

Matty:
That's Hard!!!

Paul Crichton
John McDermott
Georges Santos
Mark Lever
Darren Barnard
John Oster
Paul Futcher
John Cockerill
Stuart Campbell
Clive Mendonca
Neil Woods

Subs:Danny Coyne,Gary Croft,Craig Shakespeare,Michael Boulding,Jack Lester

Fishy:
What's the best-ever atmosphere you remember at a home and away game?

Matty:
Well this season against Brentford was great but it has to be when we beat S.Weds in 02/03.

Fishy:
If you have any, do your children support the Mariners?

Matty:
Not yet, but they will.

Matty Kurzon
