Austin Mitchell - What are YOU doing?

By: Paul Neal
Date: 05/01/2007

JAN 25 2006 - a potentially massive day for GTFC. We NEED the new stadium, John Fenty has put a massive amount of work into this - if the council reject the application then the consequences for the club and Mr Fenty's financial support are unthinkable.

Cleethorpes MP Shona McIsaac has nailed her colours firmly to the mast and has set up a special area on her web site for fans to communicate their views on the stadium. The dossier containing these views will then be forwarded to the council.

Even with the council's support that is not the end of the story. The government will have to give the final ruling - it is therefore important that the local council and MPs are seen to be supporting the new stadium.

That is where Mr Mitchell comes in. His silence (so far) on the new stadium has been deafening. If he doesn't agree with the new stadium then he should speak to John Fenty accordingly. Hopefully he can then be won over. If he does support the new stadium then he should state this in public, so that the government can see that the council and MPs are singing from the same hymn sheet. It is irrelevant as to whether Great Coates is in the Great Grimsby constituency - there are many Town fans within Austin Mitchell's constituency and he should be campaigning on their behalf. Surely that is not too much to ask?

Over to you, Austin Mitchell.....
