DARREN Mansaram is back in contention to start against Chesterfield, after his leg injury proved not as bad as had been originally feared. Phil Jevons, however, is unlikely to be available for Saturday as his contract problems and match fitness are not quite ready for his return just yet.

Midfielder Des Hamilton had a scan on an injury that kept him out of Tuesday's defeat at home to Swindon. Although the results are due tomorrow, it's unlikely that the former Newcastle midfielder will be available to play against bottom club Chesterfield.

Jonny Rowan was injured during the Swindon game and looks to be out of action for several weeks after suffering damage to his knee against the Robins. Mansaram's timely return to fitness is likely to restrict youngster Leon Nimmo to another start on the bench.

Paul Groves has not quite conceded defeat in his quest to bring in an experienced striker on loan, but having exhausted his immediate targets, is having to lower his sights somewhat. "We've exhausted a lot of avenues now and we're finding it very difficult to come up with somebody. It may be that you have to look elsewhere for something different", the Town boss told Mariners Net.
