Livingstone Latest - Matt Jackson Update

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/07/2001

STEVE LIVINGSTONE has departed for Lilleshall to have a persistent calf muscle injury treated and is aiming to be fit for the Northwich Victoria reserve friendly on 7th August, with an outside chance of taking part in the opening league game of the season, at home to Crewe on August 11th.

The big striker, who has not kicked a ball in anger yet this pre-season, will not play in either of the Mariners' friendlies this week, away at Scunthorpe on Wednesday, or at home to Huddersfield on Friday night.

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington has confirmed to a local newspaper that Lennie Lawrence has been making enquiries to the Norfolk club about 29-year-old central defender Matt Jackson. The Canaries boss this week told the Eastern Daily Press: "Lennie Lawrence made a phone call and Doug Livermore has mentioned it to Jacko. Whether they sign him or not is their concern."

The Mariners join a host of clubs interested in signing Jackson, with Cambridge, Luton and Wycombe rumoured to be queuing up for his signature. City captain Jackson, who has fallen out of favour at Carrow Road, has a year remaining on his contract, and could be a Lennie Lawrence's intended replacement for Peter Handyside.
