Cooke Signs On Loan Until End Of Season

By: Richard Lord
Date: 28/03/2002

Grimsby Town manager Paul Groves has today secured the services of Terry Cooke on loan until the end of the season. Martin Pringle's loan contract terminated earlier this week freeing up a space for another inclusion to the squad, that being the Manchester City winger.

Cooke has played for both England Youth and Under-21s and is a wide midfield player more comfortable on the right. The good form of Shaun Wright-Phillips has frozen him out at Maine Road.

The addition of Cooke to the squad will bolster the numbers at Blundell Park in time for the crucial relegation run-in. This loan signing also puts and end to any speculation linking Wolves' Robert Taylor with a move back to Grimsby.

Cooke is no stranger to loan moves, having spent time at Sunderland, Birmingham, Wrexham, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday. He came into professional football through the Manchester United youth set-up but later moved to City.

This is good news for Mariners fans as the signing boosts the number of midfielders at the club.
