We Can Do It - Santos

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/12/2002

GEORGES Santos says that Grimsby Town can clear the drop zone and secure a mid-table finish this season - but only if they can rustle up a good run into the Xmas period. "If we have a good run we can come back after Christmas up the table. If we get some wins we could climb very quickly.

In an interview with the Grimsby Telegraph he said: "It is a very important and testing time for us with some crucial games. If we can win at Walsall then we have Preston away and Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich at home which will be difficult."

"Derby will be a tough game also but if we stay positive we could win three of those games and climb. We're not too far away from the top 10 and the teams in 12th or 13th have got 27 or 28 points. We've got 17 so the gap is just a few games."

"We have to concentrate all the way through from the first whistle."

"The strikers must defend and work also and the midfield and the defence must do their job. We lost to Leicester because of Muzzy Izzet scoring a wonderful goal. That happens in football. That's in the past now and we've all worked hard this week. We have to play how we did against Ipswich and close them down and go for it."
