Clive, Slade and Curbishley's Verdicts!

Russell Slade, Alan Curbishley, Clive Mendonca and a couple of fans gave their verdicts on the game and there was no doubt who was the better team but the poorest finishers.
Russell Slade said; "Obviously I was pleased with the performance of the players. I thought we played with an enthusiasm and a method that was positive and attacking."
"I thought we had a terrific spell in the first period - we perhaps should have scored."
"That was a great response, because obviously, we had that early setback. I would have been delighted to get a goal because it might well have been a different story."
"Grimsby were on top all through the game, but football is about taking chances."
"A player like Francis Jeffers can hardly touch the ball in the whole 90 minutes and yet when he's given a chance that's when he will be the difference. Grimsby just didn't have a forward with the same killer instinct."
"It's the mark of a good striker, and Jeffers is one of the best around at putting the ball in the net. When I heard they had signed him I thought it was good news for the team, and showed how far Charlton have come."
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley said;
"I think Grimsby played tremendously well - I hope it gives them a lift in terms of their league form."
"We always knew it would be a difficult game and we were right. They put us under tremendous pressure, created a couple of really good chances - didn't take them -we took ours."
"I'm glad to get out of the game with a result, disappointed that we've perhaps got another couple of injuries - which I don't need. But I'm glad that we are in the next round."
"Fortune twisted his ankle and is sore, Young's problem is part groin and part hip and was because of the way he landed in a challenge."
"We are in a bit of a situation and I'm glad that our next game isn't until Monday because it gives us a chance."
The Fan"s View
Raphael619 a Charlton fan Posted on the Fishy MB;
"First of all unlucky for losing the game, you lot outplayed us most of the time and were very unfortunate not to have put a couple of goals in"
"Secondly who is that Reddy lad? He looked razor sharp last night, was that a one-off or a usual performance for him? With all due respect I didn't expect to see a player with such agility in League Two. Keep hold of him or sell him to us :)"
"Good luck for the rest of the season, you ARE better the Scunthorpe)"
Grimsby fan Haddoctor posted;
"In terms of taking chances, I guess we have to say that perhaps the best team won tonight, however in terms of endeavour, committment, posession etc., etc., etc then the best team certainly didn't win."
"Tonight, once again emphatically emphasised our need for a striker - had we had this tonight, no doubt we'd have turned over Charlton - we were the better side by a huge margin."
"Respect to the Addicks for coming and getting the win, however on the evidence of tonight the gap between the basement and the pinnacle league is very slim indeed."
