Town Fail in Striker Quest

GRIMSBY have failed to get their two primary loan targets Richie Humphreys (gone to Port Vale instead) and Carl Asaba (doesn't want to play in League Two). If Town are to bring anyone else in on loan they have until midday on Saturday.

It's looking increasingly likely though that Graham Rodger will have to settle for the players he has at his disposal for Saturday's game with Walsall at Blundell Park. Isaiah Rankin could play alongside last season's leading scoring Gary Jones, or Rodger could make an audacious decision to start with rookie Andy Taylor.

Rodger had been hoping to use the re-opening of Friday's loan transfer window to bring in a new front player in place of long term absentees Michael Reddy and Gary Cohen.

  • Former Grimsby midfielder Curtis Woodhouse won his first professional boxing bout this evening, beating featherweight Dean Marcantonio with a KO in just three rounds. Woodhouse controversially turned his back on football in favour of boxing, despite never having seriously pursued the sport before.
