Chris Llewellyn Signs

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/07/2008

GRIMSBY Town have made their fourth signing of the summer, snapping up left-sided Welsh international midfielder Chris Llewellyn from Wrexham. The 28-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Mariners and should be first choice for the left wing slot in Town's new 4-4-2 formation.

Llewellyn started his career at Norwich, during which time he won six caps with Wales. After seven years he left Carrow Road for Wrexham in 2003, where he has remained until now with the exception of a year spent at Hartlepool in League One.

Llewellyn will join fellow ex-Wrexham newcomer Richard Hope, signed last week, in pre-season training so he should soon settle in!

Alan Buckley told the Grimsby Telegraph: "Chris is a good football player - my kind of player. He has good quality as well as experience after his time at Norwich and with the Wales squad. I’m really pleased he’s joining us."

"Obviously we lost Ciaran (Toner) who played a lot of his time with us on the left - albeit out of position. Chris is a natural left-sider and will slot in there easily.

"He is adaptable, though, and can push further up and switch sides - he should be a great asset to us. It gives us options on that left with Heggy (Nick Hegarty) and Tom (Newey) already in there."

Grim Rob Says Another top signing for Town and we now have prospect of playing this season with two genuine wingers and a proper right back in place for probably the first time since Buckley returned. A goal scorer
