Bennett to Join Posh

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/12/2009

RYAN Bennett will be joining Peterborough permanently on 1st Jan when his loan ends and the move agreed with Town back in October is activated. Grimsby will benefit by around half a million pounds from the transfer, although it's understood that they will not receive all of that at once.

Bennett has been on loan at London Road since October in a move agreed just hours after former boss Mike Newell left Blundell Park, although the two events are said by the club not to have been linked.

Bennett told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I am almost fully signed to Peterborough now - that deal has been done since the day I left and kicks-in in January.

"The fee was accepted by Grimsby and that will come in January as well. I've signed a four-year deal there, which is the same length as I had at Grimsby.

"That's me now - I won't be coming back to Grimsby. I am moving all my family down there and that's the future for me. I've settled in quite well there now.

Peterborough have struggled since Bennett arrived, and the former Town captain had to wait eight games to experience a victory - something which must have seemed eerily familiar to the situation he found himself it whilst at Grimsby!

Grim Rob Says: The Bennett deal in retrospect was a good bit of business for Town and if spent wisely in the next four weeks could be the things which ultimately saves us.
