Town Relegated

DEFEAT today at Burton meant that Grimsby were relegated from the Football League exactly 100 years since they last dropped out of the second flight of English football. As it happened Town would have been relegated even had they won, because Barnet beat Rochdale 1-0 in the last minute.

Grimsby were a very poor second to Burton Albion who had nothing to play for, conceded an early goal and going on to lose 3-0.

Barnet dominated the game against Rochdale, missing two good chances in the first half and hitting the woodwork in the second, before a late goal grabbed all three points for the Bees.

Grimsby's magnificent support means they don't deserve to go down in comparison to Barnet's tiny following many of whom follow Barnet as a second team to one of the larger London sides , but that's football.

Unless someone drops out of the Football League, Town will take their place in the Blue Square Premier League next season.
