Beat the Bookies: Week 19

By: Rob Sedgwick

LAST week's games both were close to being winners for Beat the Bookies. Luton in particular were denied a last minute penalty at Charlton, and Newcastle also came close to beating Chelsea in Sunday's game.

This week there are virtually no games outside the top flight so it's time to concentrate on the Premier League which is likely to survive the cold spell.

  • Chelsea v EVERTON (9.5, Sky Bet). Chelsea have only won one out of five on the last Premier League games, but Everton haven't won any at all, so both teams are out of form. John Terry looks like being back for Chelsea, as well as Essien, so key players are starting to come back. The only thing really tempting about this game is the price - 9.5 has to be the better of value the two wins; 4-1 on a draw is also worth investigating.
  • Sunderland v WEST HAM (4.6, Victor Chandler). The Hammers were rampant the other night against Man Utd, as they were the previous weekend against Wigan. Sunderland have not won since their shock win at Stamford Bridge. One possible issue is the extra rest Sunderland have had.
  • BIRMINGHAM (3.75, Victor Chandler) v Tottenham. Spurs have won their last favour and are heavy favourites to win this game. However the Blues have a great home record and have won their last two matches at St Andrews against Villa and Chelsea. Assuming they have come down from Wednesday night then 11/4 is a bargain price against a Spurs side who often seem to splutter in these sort of games.
  • Man City v BOLTON (7, Victor Chandler). Bolton are flying high this season and have a great chance to win this local derby against a City side who seem to often drop points in games you'd expect them to win. City have drawn their last two league games at home 0-0 so their fans might well soon get frustrated,
