Newport v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/09/2012

GRIMSBY will be make one enforced change for the long trip to Newport. Derek Niven picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 3-0 win over Gateshead on Tuesday night, which triggers an automatic one match ban. Frankie Artus looks likely to get the nod to fill Niven's boots in centre midfield.

Artus is primarily a central midfielder but has been playing on the left for Town until the arrival of specialist winger Scott Neilson on loan relegated the Scot to the bench.

Artus is likely to be given a chance to prove himself, but the managers could also turn to Andi Thanoj instead.

Newport have one absentee themselves. 18-year-old striker Lee Evans has played just 11 games for Wales but has already gained international recognition, having been picked for Wales Under-23's side. Evans injured a hamstring during the 4-2 win at Telford. Either Mike Flynn or Jake Thomson is likely to replace the rookie striker.

Town are top of the current form league, and Newport are top of the league table for the 11 games of the season to date. Both teams have won recent games comfortably, and the pair have both being finding the target on a regular basis in the last couple of games.

  • Grimsby supporters can now buy tickets on the day for the big match in South Wales.
