Is football a business or a sport?

GRIMSBY crumbled against one of the better sides in the division, not for the first time this season. The Mariners took an early lead against Doncaster courtesy of some excellent control by Sam Jones in the box, turning and beating a player to drill the ball home.

Unfortunately Doncaster equalised within three minutes when the ball was played into Marquis who ghosted into the area and flicked in unchallenged from the six yard box, then added a second shortly afterwards with a near-post header from a corner. Marquis added his third after the break when he beat the Town offside trap and raced through to fire in at the Osmond End.

Williams added a fourth with Grimsby's defence mounting only a token challenge during a solo run and shot from the wing. The final goal came from another near post header, this time by May, bundling home in the closing stages.

Town started well but once they conceded there was only going to be one result. The Mariners have now lost heavily to Exeter, Crewe, Portsmouth and Doncaster in 2017. There have been a few good results as well but the season is dwindling to a disappointing end.
