PAUL Wilkinson has left Blundell Park after just over a year as Assistant Manager. Wilkinson arrived when Russell Slade was appointed and stepped up to the role of Caretaker when Slade was sacked. Results did not improve in Wilkinson's spell in charge but he was retained after Michael Jolley took over.

The club though have decided to allow Wilkinson to leave, meaning Michael Jolley will be able to acquire an assistant of his own choosing.

Michael Jolley told the official Town site: "Paul has played an important role in helping us survive this season. He is a hardworking and experienced football man and I am very grateful for his help in the last two months. I wish him the very best for the future."

Jolley is expected to sign at least a dozen new players, and a new assistant can be added to his vacancy list.

Grimbarian Wilkinson was a Town player in the 1980s before departing to Everton and spent most of his playing time in the top flight. Since then he has had a variety of coaching roles, including spells at Cardiff and Leeds, and has now been asked to leave his role twice at Blundell Park. Wilkinson had been Reserve Team Coach in 2003 but left after the position was merged with that of Assistant Manager.
