Is football a business or a sport?

Town March On

GRIMSBY put one of their best performances of the season at they emphatically beat Yeovil at Huish Park. Goals from Wes Thomas and Kristian Dennis set Town on their way, and the Mariners are definitely looking upwards rather than down as the season head towards the final quarter.

Town are close to the 50 point mark which would see them all but safe, so only a dramatic collapse would see Grimsby drawn into the promotion race. Given Town's relatively easy run-in and the tendency to either win or lose there are enough points at stake for the Mariners to be fringe candidates to make the top 7.

James McKeown returned in goal after this three-match ban in place of Sam Russell, otherwise, Michael Jolley unsurprisingly kept the same side that has thrashed Newport last week.

Town started brightly and took an early lead thanks to a deep cross by Luke Hendrie which found the head of Wes Thomas who guided the ball into the net.

A fine passing move of one-touch football saw Grimsby extend their lead before the break. Elliot Embleton's cross was turned into his own net by Gafaiti in a similar goal to the third against Newport last week.

Just before the break McKeown made a good save with his feet to deny Fisher then Thomas blasted a good chance over.

After the break Yeovil were given a mountain to climb when Alcock was shown a second yellow for a body check on Jordan Cook.

With Town coasting a third seemed likely a chip from Dennis put the points beyond doubt with an adroit chip. The only blemish was a late consolation for Fisher from an injury-time free kick which stopped Grimsby keeping a clean sheet.

The Mariners are next in action at the weekend when they take on Cheltenham at Blundell Park.
