GRIMSBY lost for the second time running in a display littered with mistakes which saw the Mariners throw away a 2-1 lead and end up losing 3-2 at Crawley. It was a match that Town should have got at least a point in.

James Hanson returning to the starting line-up in a big boost for Grimsby as the big striker has been missing for over a month. Otherwise, Ian Holloway stuck with the side that were unlucky to lose at home against Exeter, with Max Wright dropping to the bench.

Ex-Mariner Ollie Palmer was first on the scoresheet when Bullman found a gap in Town's defence and set up Palmer for an expert finish.

Town were back level within minutes though when a powerful strike by Vernam was parried by Morris into the path of Glennon who set up Whitehouse for a tap-in.

Town were soon in front when Town's talisman Hanson's header was initially saved, only to present Town's N. 9 with another tap-in goal.

Town deserved the first half lead but the second was a different story when mistakes cost Town dear. Hanson went close to putting daylight between Town and Crawley but dragged his shot wide. Then Dangerman Nadesan left Pollock for dead and set up Palmer for his second.

Within minutes Town's midfield parted like the Red Sea and Nadesan ran through to blast the home side in front.

Grimsby mounted a challenge in the last few minutes and had shouts for penalties but it was not their day.

On the plus side, the Mariners showed they were capable of scoring again. On the downside, Crawley's front two were a handful all afternoon and Town were vulnerable to their interplay.

Grimsby face Stevenage at home next on Tuesday night in a must-win game against the bottom side.
