WITH the new season almost upon us, it's time to cast an eye upon the teams in League Two for 2006-2007. Richard Hubbert turns his attention to Mansfield.

Key PlayerRichie Barker. The 31 year old marksman amassed 23 goals last season. He has scored goals wherever he has been and if he can keep himself fit then the Stags will be in with a shot of the play offs. Only a horrendous start to last season robbed them a chance of making a bid.
StrengthsMansfield have strength and pace going forward. Simon Brown is a handy midfield player who despite injuries last season, netted 12 goals in 30 games. Giles Coke and Matt Hamshaw will be a handful for any defenders and in attack, Richie Barker and Mick Boulding are almost guaranteed to get goals.
WeaknessesWith just 5 recognised defenders, the Stags look a little short at the back. Some heavy losses towards the end of last season will be a worry to boss Peter Shirtliff.
Prediction6th. It was only a few years ago that Mansfield were a spot kick away from promotion to League One. In his first full season as boss, Shirtliff may be in for a successful year.

Next Team: MK Dons
