Ipswich Player On Trial At BP

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 18/02/2003

PAUL Groves has taken Ipswich midfielder Robert Dickinson on trial. Dickinson is in looking to find himself a new club, and has already been at Rotherham and West Ham.

Mariners Net says that sources at the East Anglian Club said, "Joe Royle has told Robert he's not going to get a contract at the end of the season so he's looking for a new club"

"Robert's got bags of ability but maybe he's one who needs to step down to come back up again - a bit like Tommy Miller did. "He's a bit on the small side and needs to develop physically as well.

"A few of the lads now are coming to the end of their three year scholarships and decisions are being made. It's a shame when they are not taken on and we do as much as we can to help the boys find another club."

Dickinson is expected to take part in the game against York City in the Avon Insurance League to enable Groves to assess him.

Decribed as a skilful player who can score goals with both feet, he has the ability to open up the opposition defence with good quality early passes and crosses.
