Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

New Manager Announcement Today?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 27/05/2004

ALTHOUGH the Grimsby Town board hope to have a new manager appointed by the weekend there is no guarantee that they will succeed. Interviews have almost concluded with their primes suspects but a decision could be some time away.

On the other hand an offer could be extended today to their preferred candidate and if he accepts, the wait will be over. According to our sources, that seems the most likely outcome.

The club have already declared that Scarborough manager, Russell Slade, is on the short list but the club have played their cards close to their chest and others named around the traps are just speculation.

A 'club spokesman' told TeamTalk;

"We thought we had tied something up on Monday, but once the contract was basically drawn up an agent appeared on the scene - they are like wasps."

"It's very important to get the manager sorted out because we only have six players signed up and we need to start selling season tickets, so we need to get cracking."

Let us hope that the announcement is today but despite us fans chomping at the bit to see an appointment, it has been a very wise move by the board not to have rushed into making a decision.

Of course, whoever is appointed, will not be the preferred choice of everyone and Peter Furneaux said that some weeks ago. (I look forward to the cries of glee and the howls of despair!)

But it will be good to see someone taking over the reins and getting the squad sorted out. We have a hard road ahead of us and this pre-season planning will, in the end, determine where our future lies in the Football League.

That being the case, I hope the board make the right decision but the 'right decision' depends upon your point of view.

We will get your views on Question Of The Week once an appointment is made.

That should be interesting!!
