Grimsby v Bury Preview

By: Alex Green
Date: 28/01/2008

IT'S Bury's turn to find out what all the Premiership clubs complained about as they faced relegation. Yes it’s January, it's cold, it’s a Tuesday night welcome to the land of clichés.

Home > 2007-2008 Season > Previews > Bury (h)

But it’s going to be a tough nut to crack for Bury as they face a team on a great run but it’s always a game of two halves lets find out who will have the last laugh? (Ok I'll stop)

The Opposition

Overview

Only six points off them dreaded relegation places, Bury have enough reasons to come out with all guns firing on Tuesday night. After defeat to Championship side Southampton at St Mary’s over the weekend Bury can feel proud of their efforts after knocking out Norwich in the Third Round. The league is a somewhat less glamorous affair with one win in eleven. It isn't going to get better either after playing one of the in-form teams in the league (us if you hadn't got that). Bury will go on and play MK Dons, Darlington, Morecambe, Wycombe, Rotherham and Stockport - all enough for Bury fans to worry about who they can possibly pick points off of.

The Team
New manager Chris Brass (above) has his work cut out for him the small squad is bolstered by a handful of loan signings but not enough to in still faith into the Gigg Lane support. Ever present and ever idiotic coward Dave Challinor will fortunately for himself find his rather generously proportioned arse on the bench for tomorrow evening's game, as his one trick of throwing a ball very far, doesn't carry much kilter anymore. Young Andy Bishop is still catching admiring glances from other clubs as he consistently provides the goals in a struggling side while former Mariner Ben Futcher (left) is always a danger at set pieces. Though conceding 20 away from home isn't thee worst record by any of the teams in the league it certainly isn't the best either and that stat will have young goalkeeper Jim Provett wanting to make his first clean sheet in 12 games in all competitions.

Key Player
Nicky Adams. The Midfielder is one of the finds of the season being at Bury since 2005 the 22 year old is becoming a big bargaining tool for The Shakers as they wait for one of the bigger clubs to arrive to sign Adams name on the dotted line. With 7 goals from midfield this season the local born lad (up the road in Bolton) is a major cog in the engine room of Bury fast on the ball and not afraid to put his foot in Adams is one of the better midfielders we will come across this season.

    Last Meeting

    Bury 1 Grimsby 1 (Sat 18th August 2007)

In the second game of the season when optimism was still high and we always drew 1-1 Town went ahead through Bolland. Bury then scored their inevitable equaliser in the second half.
