Town Win at Blackpool

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/04/2017

INCONSISTENT Town pulled another rabbit out of the bag with a surprise 3-1 win away at Blackpool. Former Gateshead striker Sam Jones was on target for the Mariners, scoring two goals with Danny Collins also on the mark with a rare strike.

The Mariners scored all goals in fact as Andrew Boyce scored an own goal to level the game for the visitors.

Town took the lead through Collins, who was recalled to the side, with a header from Danny Andrew's cross. Blackpool levelled after a spell of pressure when Boyce turned the ball into his own net with a header from a long-range cross into the box. The Mariners had the last laugh before half time though when Jones swivelled to power Town back in front from close range after a loose ball following a corner.

The second half was fairly uneventful until Grimsby gave themselves breathing space with a superb solo goal by Jones, who latched onto a defensive mistake, dispossessed his opponent and ran on to finish the move off himself. It was another good away performance by Town who took their chances well and restricted the opposition to half chances when they had periods of possession. The Mariners return to Blundell Park on Saturday where they are due a performance in front of their own supporters.
