Is football a business or a sport?

Stuck in a Rut

ANTHONY Lubrick's spell as caretaker boss has yet to get going. Town have got off to a poor start under his stewardship which does not help the Australian's chances of securing the post permanently.

Grimsby lost the midweek game to Newport 2-0 with Padraig Amond once again on target against his former club. Town lost the chance of a televised tie against non-league opposition and a relatively simple route to a potentially money-spinning fixture in Round 3.

Yesterday against Northampton the Mariners lost by a similar scoreline. It was, however, a slightly improved performance but the Mariners are toothless at the moment in front of goal and were unable to put away the chances they created.

It's a worrying time for Grimsby who have slumped from just below the play-offs to within spitting distance of the relegation zone, although they do have games in hand after all the postponements.

Town need to reinvigorate themselves soon and the fillip of a new manager would go someway towards kick-starting their season again from the recent malaise.
