Rovers Return

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 02/02/2020

GRIMSBY followed up from their 3-1 win against Stevenage with a 2-2 draw with Forest Green Rovers at Blundell Park. The Mariners are starting to score goals again and are picking up points, with four points netted in a week following the disappointment if the 3-2 loss at Crawley.

Ian Holloway made just one enforced change from the team that beat Stevenage, brining in Josh Benson for the injured Jake Hessenthaler. Town started well and a good move ended with Billy Clarke setting up Vernam who blasted Town in front.

Town were coasting but allowed FGR to get back in the game when Bailey was allowed to run at goal and blast the ball into the top corner for a stunning goal. It came from nowhere and gave the visitors the impetus going into half time.

Rovers started well after the break and they once again broke through in midfield when a defence-splitting pass found Aitchison and he ran through to finish from an angle.

It didn't take long for Town to reply and a good move from Grimsby ended with Hanson nodding down the ball into the path of Glennon to tap in.

Both sides had chances but in the end, a draw was a fair result in an entertaining game.
